What is a Youth Worker?
A Youth Worker is a professional that guides and supports young people with their personal, social, and educational development.
They are a reliable presence and offer mentoring, facilitation, advocacy, and emotional support. They assist young people to navigate their everyday challenges, build resilience, and discover their individual strengths.
At Burdekin, Youth Workers work with young people in our Out-of-home Care program.
What are the steps to become a Youth Worker?
To become a Youth Worker, the following qualifications and experience is required.

Youth Worker qualifications
A minimum of Certificate 3 in Youth Work or relevant education in areas like social work or community services.

Youth Worker experience
You will need experience working with young people aged 7 to 18 – try to get this while studying. This will help you meet the requirement of at least one year of experience working with young people preferably in Out-of-Home Care.
